Support Music
Welcome to the fam! Imported cds of Pink Floyd and Angels and Airwaves.
The thrill when you find the cd of your beloved musician is unbearable - or maybe it's just me?
But sometimes other people might not get it. They just don't get it.
There're always stupid people who like to ruin THE moment by asking dumb question out of nowhere.
So, me and my soul brother who happen to love music and decide to fully support our beloved musicians by buying their music legally are very eager to visit my favorite music store in Sarinah. I already boughy several things like Sigur Ros, Snow Patrol, Vampire Weekend.
Last Friday he came to Jakarta and for the first time went to the store with me.
HALLELUJAH! Beck, Death Cab for Cutie, Interpol, Panic at the Disco the first album! Can you imagine! I found the first cd of PATD! Back then when I was in junior high school I bought their cassete and now I found the imported cd!
Firstly I chose Beck and PATD but then I found Angels and Airwaves! AVA songs have special place in my life, they're like my anthem. Torned between very difficult option I chose to drop Beck from my shopping list so I PUT the cd in its place.
Then I search for another cd.
Later on my soul brother advise me to buy Pink Floyd legendary album The Dark Side of the Moon, he said it was a obligatory thing to do. So I did it.
Then out of nowhere while I was so fucking happy to find Death Cab for Cutie , this man -one of the shopkeepers- asked me where did the Beck cd go.
I PUT it there. Right there. In the rack, the place where it belonged.
He search it. And I search it too. And my soul bro search it too. And I couldn't find it. So did the man. I don't know why but the moment when he raised this question to me I knew that he accused me shoplifting the cd or maybe it just my sensitive girly feeling-yikes.
Then BOOM, my soul bro found the cd! In the B section, STILL in the B section! Where it belonged but maybe different position but STILL in B section! It wasn't even that vast area!
He told the man he found the cd and what did the man say? He just looked up and said OH.
What? Excuse me? What OH?
OH you found the cd.
OH you didn't steal it.
OH you put it in the B section.
Maybe a little thank you because we FOUND the cd. And we helped your ass! Yep, Thank You Man!
When I was a freshman in university I was doing part time job in clothing store and I NEVER EVER asked my customer such irritating question!
His act was so irritating. And he ruined my happy moment!
Why?
Because I know some people just don't get it. The man don't get it what it means to me to find and buy music. In this world where you can download music illegally, it's a mandatory for me to at least support my beloved musicians by buying their music.
Yes I do illegally download music like CIRC and Laura Marling because I can't find their cd and don't have credit card to buy it on iTunes. Besides the reason why I love to buy cd is because it has physical appearance.
In life we need to have priority to spend our money but maybe not if you are filthy rich. I need to decide which cd I buy because I can't buy all of them at once especially many of my favorite cds are imported.
Some people choose to spend money for travelling, for shoes and bags, for food, for having expensive PET and posted the certificate online (is it necessary or just to earn recognition and prestige to buy breeding dog or cat meanwhile many homeless dogs and cats are crying to have a home? Ever heard about "ADOPT DON'T SHOP"? )
But I GUESS NONE OF THEM are listening to music. HAH! Of course they listen to music, it's a life, daily routine like you breath, eat, sleep. But how many of them buy music? Few of them, very few.
So I have my priority. I want to travel more, adopt furry friend (you don't buy your future's best friend) , buy shoes, buy bags, buy food, buy t shirts, buy boots, and buy music.
Ironically, the last is sometimes forgotten or some say that it's only wasting money. You can drive your car everyday, buy gasoline, but you can not afford to legally buy music to be played in your car?
It's only a matter of priority.
You decide.
