Ready Player One : In a world of pure imagination

Ready Player One is a 2011 science fiction novel and written by Ernest Cline. The film adaption with the same title will be premiered on 29 March 2018.

Reasons to watch Ready Player One:

1. It was based on the best-selling novel and it’s so good!

Bought the book on March 2018 and binge read it because I really have to know what happened in the end! I read it during my trip from Jakarta to Belitung.

At one point during my travel in Belitung, I visited Tanjung Tinggi Beach and took picture of the book along with the beach landscape and the realization hit me.

Earth, our home, is still a beautiful place to live in, we're still have the chance to feel the pouring sun-rays, clean air and vast skyline but apparenntly not so much in the future.

The book along with the beautiful beach landscape

The book set in 2054 which is not-so-distant-future tells about the live on Earth that has gone wrong. The world starts collapsing and it's called Global Energy Crisis that's been going on for a while because of the excessive fossil fuel that human use as source of energy and gradually lead to distraction. People live in stacks of RV as you can see in the cover of the book because land is very expensive, energy is rare, the economy crumbling and it's very hard to apply for decent jobs, even applying for working in fast food restaurants take 2 years in queue.

The only perfect escape from the dark days of the real world is OASIS, the  virtual world created by James Halliday, who is a trillionaire thanks to the OASIS that are massively used by people.

I would called him as philanthropist, an eccentric one. He has no children so when he's dying, he announces a contest and whoever won it, will get his fortune, all of it include the OASIS which means you could get total control of the world and the future.

PS about the book cover :

Couldn't help but noticed that there's something wrong about the book cover, but I don't really could point it out.

Then I did random search about the film adaption and the news about the first movie poster came out! It was the leg of Tye Sheridan that makes it look so weird, that longggg leg! >.<

I got the book in Kinokuniya for Rp 138K and I only need to pay around Rp 100K which is the price after 20% discount. I couldn't help but wonder if that's the reason they gave the discount, I wouldn't mind though! (smiley smiley smiley)

2. The lead stars

First I notice the movie trailer in late December 2017. My instant reaction was wow! Is this for real? Tye Sheridan and Olivia Cooke?

I'M SO HAPPY. HAPPY THAT KIND OF HAPPY.

What attracted me first was Tye Sheridan, the lead star who plays Wade Watts and his avatar, Parzival.

He’s always been one of the most my favorite child actors since his heart-wrenching performance in Joe, Mud and Tree of Life.

He's been doing really great by landing role in popular franchise like X-Men and now in the movie that was directed by one of the most legendary and reputable cinematic filmmakers, Stephen Spielberg and he's only 21!

Can't wait for more years to come and what future roles will be played by Tye.

Then followed by Olivia Cooke, my another girl crush since her appearance in Bates Motel.

I found out later that it was based on a novel and I promise to read the book first before watching the film adaptation.

And I did!

The feature film will be premiered on 29 March and I couldn't contain my excitement!

3. The director, the Stephen Spielberg

Ernest Cline, the writer of the book, commented on how Spielberg gave a very huge influence in his writing process of Ready Player One : "I could not have written Ready Player One have I not growing up on a study of Stephen Spielberg's movies."

What really excites me is the fact that Spielberg was actually mentioned in the book, then he read the book and it really grab his attention and eventually made him direct the film. How cool is that!

Spielberg agrees a lot with the book that stretches out on how the future will look like. He commented :

"When I read Ready Player One, it was the most amazing flash forward and flash back at the same time."

"I suddenly saw a future that Ernest Cline, the writer of the book envisioned. It wasn't that far away from what I think was going to happen someday."

"It's a good time to escape, virtual reality will be a super drug."

SUPER EXCITED TO SEE THE FUTURE!

4. The music in the movie trailer

LOVE IT! SUPER LOVE! KEEP PLAYING IT ALL DAY LONG! WISH THEY WOULD RELEASE IT IN ITUNES!

Pure Imagination, the version used in the trailer sang by Ghostwriter Music

The song originally sang by Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory movie in 1971.

I guess the story line does have some similarities with Willy Wonka if you consider the Oasis to be like Halliday's chocolate factory.
- super rich
- eccentric
- had no children
- hold contest to win the entire fortune

Pure Imagination :

Come with me and you'll be
In a world of pure imagination
Take a look and you'll see
Into your imagination

Take on Me by A-HA but in the orchestral version

IT'S EPIC! TEARS ALL OVER THE PLACE! I NEED THIS SONG LIKE IMMEDIATELY!

JOIN THE OASIS RIGHT AWAY!
